David Peter Grades Obituary

David Peter Grades, age 77 of Lansing, passed away peacefully on January 7th surrounded by his loved ones after battling a long illness. He graduated from O’Rafferty High School in Lansing and served in the U.S. Army as an equipment mechanic. He went on to work as a truck driver and truck mechanic until retirement, after which he worked on cars or anything with a motor for family and friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and many people came to him for advice. In recent years, he enjoyed volunteering at Mother Teresa House as a handyman. He loved a good mystery and was an avid reader. He enjoyed long walks and bike rides with his kids and grandkids.

David was born on March 19, 1947 in Lansing, Michigan to Peter and Donna Grades. He is survived by his wife of 53 years -Sue; children - Jeremy (Theresa) Grades; Angela (Ruben) Maldonado; and Melissa Grades; grandchildren - Jason; Marisa (Mike); Jordan; and Gabe; brothers and sisters - Paula (Eric) Clark; Ron Grades; Theresa Grades; Larry (Rachel) Grades; Donna Izzo; Mark Grades; Bruce Grades; and many nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents; brother Peter; and sister Laura.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 10th from 4-7pm at Palmer Bush Lansing Chapel 520 E Mt. Hope Avenue, Lansing, MI 48910.

Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday January 11th at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 219 Seymour Avenue, Lansing MI 48933. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
