After we graduated from O'Rafferty in 1965, I attended Lansing Community College for my Freshman year.
I transferred to Northern Michigan University (NMU) for my last three years. In June of 1969 I graduated with a degree in English.
While at NMU I participated in Track and won a couple of Varsity Letters.
My wife Nancy (Kapp), and I met while we were both teaching in the Portland Michigan Public School System during the 1969-70 school year. We were married in June of 1971.
We have three great children: (Karie 36), Kristi (35), and Jim (32). All three children reside in the Chicago Area and are doing well professionally. They have blessed us with four grandchildren.
We are a close family and enjoy spending time together and hanging out with the grandchildren.
I worked for the Lansing Public School District from September of 1971 until June of 1988. Over those years I taught English, coached Track and served as an assistant principal.
My last assignment in Lansing was at Sexton High School where I was one of three assistant principals. Paul Pozega was a teacher and Track Coach there at the time.
To make a long story short, he encouraged me to apply for a high school principalship that opened up at Marquette Senior High School, in Marquette, Michigan for the 1988-89 school year.
Our family moved to Marquette, Michigan in August of 1988.
I worked for the Marquette Area Public School System from 1988 until I retired in June of 1999. I served as the High School Principal (2 years), Assistant Superintendent (1 year), and Superintendent (8 years).
I was blessed and lucky and got the job. We never left the Upper Peninsula.
I retired as the Superintendent of Schools in Marquette in June of 1999, then worked in a part time job for the Athletic Department at Northern Michigan University until January 31, 2008. I am now retired-retired.
My wife Nancy is now retired. She worked in Pubic School Education and in the Education Department at Marquette General Hospital.
We sold our home in Marquette, bought some property on Lake Michigamme and moved there three years ago.
The family comes up here a lot during the summer and we go to Chicago a lot during the rest of the year for family activities.
I was saddened to hear about Mike Lynch. When his mother moved their family to Lansing, they lived in our neighborhood.
I had some contact with his mother when I worked for the Lansing School District. If my memory is accurate, she was a secretary at either Immaculate Heart of Mary or St. Casmir Elementary School in the 1980's.
I will be unable to attend our Class Reunion
because of a long standing
I thank Gene, Kim and Jack for everything
they have done and will do to
Please know that I will be thinking about all of you on September 25th.
